Dynamics of Beliefs
The dynamics of beliefs is one of the major components of any autonomous system, that should be able to incorporate new pieces of information. In this paper we give a quick overview of the main operators for belief change, in particular revision, update, and merging, when the beliefs are represented in propositional logic. And we discuss some works on belief change in more expressive frameworks.
متن کاملDynamics of Conflicting Beliefs in Social Networks
This paper analyzes two proposed models for simulating opinion dynamics in social networks where beliefs might be considered to be competing. In both models agents have a degree of tolerance, which represents the extent to which the agent takes into account the differing beliefs of other agents, and a degree of conflict, which represents the extent to which two beliefs are considered to be comp...
متن کاملMeasuring beliefs in centimeters: private knowledge biases preschoolers' and adults' representation of others' beliefs.
A novel task, using a continuous spatial layout, was created to investigate the degree to which (in centimeters) 3-year-old children's (N = 63), 5-year-old children's (N = 60), and adults' (N = 60) own privileged knowledge of the location of an object biased their representation of a protagonist's false belief about the object's location. At all ages, participants' knowledge of the object's act...
متن کاملDynamics of Beliefs and Strategy of Perception
An autonomous agent equipped with sensors is expected to efficiently perform a given mission within a dynamic and changing world of which it has an uncertain representation. In order to keep this representation well-grounded, the agent has to organize the acquisition of information autonomously. A key issue is to choose a framework for the representation of beliefs which is adapted to deal both...
متن کاملChoices, beliefs, and infectious disease dynamics.
A dynamic model of risky behavior in the midst of an epidemic is discussed. The key result is that pessimistic expectations over the future of the epidemic induce more current risky behavior. Numerical simulation of equilibrium epidemics shows that this effect can accelerate spread of the disease in an epidemic's early stages and that the effect of policy interventions, such as preventative vac...
